Whats new :'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' is a regular flick about first love and college friends. The difference however lies in the handling of the story and the way it has been presented. The faces are fresh and young. The music is young. The treatment of the movie is sensitive. This is one refreshing comic, romantic, youthful flick, pranks, love fundas you would be able to relate to, something the youth would have been longing for since the era of DCH. You will remember you college, your frens and enjoy and relate every minute of it to your lives.
The Debutantants:Imran Khan playing the chilled out laid back witty college dude a good change from the muscular popular dudes shown as college kids in our films. an ideal for any gurl to take to her parents, yeah a rajput who cannot even kill a fly leave alone boxing a peer just for the kick of it. But witty to the T that he is shown can drag you out of any trouble with his presence of mind, no boxing required people, and such scenes are hilarious.
Genelia is is as pleasant as ever , a nice mix of a feminine lady a guy would like to fall for and at the same time has this tomboyish side to her where she can utter slangs non stop and take pangas with anybody.

Rest of the Gang:
Rotlu, the brooding king, having a crush on aditi, Bombs, the mercury tubelight of the gang, is a sweetheart having a crush on Jai(she is one refreshing face to look for), Jiggy(the jiiignesh gujju bhai with amazing gujju accent) and Shaleen are the cool dudes of the gang. all six together make the best of the best gang.
The Story: revolves around Jai Singh Rathore(Imraan Khan) Rats for short who is a firm believer of non-violence and very unlike what one would expect a Rathore to be and Aditi Mahant(Genelia D'Souza) Meow for short, who is a short-tempered, adamant, non-glamorous brat. They are part of a group of 6 friends who have been potrayed as regular fun loving college-goers. Everybody who knows Jai and Aditi including their friends and family believe that they are in love and are perfect for each other. However, Jai and Aditi think otherwise. To prove their point they agree to find soulmates for each other. Jai finds Meghna(Manjari Phadnis). That is when Aditi begins to get jealous and she has emoted this really nicely. By the second half Aditi also finds someone for herself. How, the duo realises there love for each other and get away from their present lovers is what the story is all about.

Other characters to watch out for:
Paresh Rawal, one classic cop, a pain in the neck of ratna pathak shah, jais mother, wonderful as the hyperactive, senssitive and practical modern mother.(all you sarabhai fans would love her here, she is such an apt lady for this role who hates violence), and Neseeruddin shah, this man can make a movie hit with just a 2 min role, remember Khuda ke liye, yes, he is dead, and does the wonders from a portrait, check it out for yourself. Aditi's reclusive brother (Prateik Babbar, Smita Patil's son, one fresh and lively and different face and role which will get you think of youth of their kind) is an interesting touch. Meghana, jais girlfren, funny, she lives in her own imaginary world, her parents make up another good scene. All in all every character has done justice to the roles they have played.

The Pluses: is the movie is the way the relationship's have been handled be it that of Jai and Aditi, the 6 friends, Jai and Jai's mother, Aditi and her brother, Meghna's parent or of Jai's Mother and his dead father happens to speak out of a potrait, hoping some day Jay becomes a Rathore (the aggressive kind who must ride a horse, go to jail and bash up people to honour their lineage)The music is different as is expected out of AR Rahman and the track 'Pappu Can't Dance' is quite catchy. There are a few good comic scenes like when Jai returns home after beating up Aditi's fiancee and the way his father dances around from within the potrait and when Jai goes to meet Aditi's parents to ask for a job and they misunderstand that he is here to talk about his and Aditi's engagement. Rotlu, heartbroken in love, goes to a bartender and demands a "Coca Cola on the rocks".
Verdict: One Paisa Vasoool movie
Watch Out: The movie does not have a strong storyline and had it not been for the way it has been treated the movie would have been a sure disappointment. Imraan Khan's acting is worth a praise considering he is a debutant. Ratna Pathak Shah also plays a nice role. The movie is worth a watch once, however it is not the kind of love story one can watch again and again and not get bored.
Final Rating: Paisa Vasool . One to two time Watch.
