The Story: Hancock is a superhero movie but, unlike the usual kinds. John Hancock (Will Smith) is a superhero, but like other superhero movies he is not admired by the masses. He is shown as an alcoholic, a**hole who in trying to save people's lives and catch criminals, damages public property and causes havoc so much so that the people of his city want him to leave town. The story takes a turn when Hancock saves the life of Ray (Jason Bateman), a PR guy. Ray decides to help Hancock even though Ray's wife Mary (Charlize Theron) is very much against it. He makes Hancock realize that even though he helps people, his ways are not correct. He helps him attain a new avatar and soon Hancock gets all the respect and admiration that he deserves from the public.
The Pluses:Just when you begin to feel that the movie is settling down it takes a turn when the characters start delving into Hancock's past. There is this scene where the three main characters - Hancock, Ray and Mary are sitting in a restaurant discussing Hancock's past, when the look on Mary's face reveals that she knows something about Hancock's past which she is not ready to share. It is then that the story takes a major twist and one comes to know that Mary has some connection with Hancock's origins and his past. This turn and the way the story progresses after that might appeal to some might ruin the movie for some. However, the twist is quite unexpected and one has to give the movie credit for that.
Verdict: Paisa Vasool
Watch Out: All in all, the movie is comic though it tends to get a little emotional towards the end. There are a few really good scenes in the movie, like when Hancock throws a 10-yr old lad into the atmosphere, when he prevents a bank robbery and obviously the scene where the twist in the movie occurs. The action in the movie is not much. The action in the first half is still fine but, the action sequence in the end is a little lousy. It’s a short 1 1/2 hour movie. Overall Will Smith carries the movie pretty neat. The movie would not have been what it is had it not been for him.
