Whats new : ‘Singh is Kinng’ is a regular Akshay Kumar style ‘watch with not much brains’ kinda comedy. Whats New? Yes but this movie would not give you baseless plot every next minute with the plot going nowhere, instead it has a very predictable sardaron wala plot, which is not stretched too much and gives you the comic bit in the right spirits. I generally don’t like this periods comedy movies for one reason that they have a total non sesual plot trying to create humor in the most impossible ways, but this was a pleasant change from those lines, the mode of creating humor was more of the classic style, i.e with dialogues, and with plots than with screaming out the dialogues loud or runnig around here and there creating some kinda panic, this one gives the essence of Punjabi humor in right measures and does justice to it to some extent. (But one thing for sure you ought to have the taste of Punjabi humor to like this one.)


The Leads: Akshay Kumar, playing Happy Singh(one can so easily relate to this name in punjab) , a simpleton, with less brains, good at heart, trying to do good, but whimsical, so creates a ruckus in whatever he does, which does create a good comic plot. A small village guy, world famous in his village for his notorious front. Akshay has always had a good comic timing and so does he has it here, speaks good Punjabi and lives up to a sardaars role. Akshay has done full justice to his role pulling through the movie till the end.

Katrina playing Sonia, plays the chirpy accented Tankyu(read thank you) gurl, and plays whats mostly expected of her in most of hr movies, “look good” wherever required. She just has to look good and utter a few sugary dialogues which she has done with ace. Shes looking better with every movie, her smile does sunshine to the movie. All in all she has done justice to her role, as not much is expected from her roles anyways.



Rest of the Cast: Off late I haven’t really likes Om Puri in the old-young/young-old hyperactive roles, and somehow it switched me off when I saw him as Happy's best frens, but his role here was comparatively less loud and it was a pleasant change, and he showed up as a good match for happy as a freeing cum foe. Sonu Sood, once a silly villager, is now the Kinng don in Australia, and is a wrong choice for the role, he looks stupid, roles like ashiq banaya suits him better, but I guess a less shining person was taken for Kinng, so that Akshay could be highlighted better later, and it works. The rest of the junta as chelas of the king have done their little bits in the right spirit, be it yashpal sharma(udaas oops pankaj) with something to cry about always, sudhanshu pandey looks good as a Punjabi, is the sane sardaar among them all, there just to mellow them all to let the track flowing. Kiron Kher delivers the Punjabi dialogues in awe, it comes so natural to her. Ranvir shorey is the poor guy scrambled in this movie, he has a different level of comic streak in him and just doesn’t suit him, noone else could have better suited his role. Neha Dhupia is a wannabe actress an assistant to Kinnng, and does her teeny bit well wit uttering silly bollywood style dialogues here and there.

The Story: It revolves around Happy, the silly/funny village guy making life difficult for all around him, with a few comic scenes no the go, how the villagers plot to send him off to Australia, to get back Lucky, a guy from their village, who has now become the don of dons in ausie, and the good at heart happy agrees to this for luckys parents sake. The plot penned by rangeela, falls back on him who has to accompany happy, they get into troubles here and there and somehow reach Australia, try to give right and wrong gyan to Kinng (Sonu Sood)- an utter disappointment (I was so happy that he had a muted role in most of the film). His encounter with Sonia on his way to Australia, and love at first sight, how he ends up saving Kinngs life but gets him paralyzed, how misunderstandings lead him to be the next Kinng, and how he sudharofies all of them and convinses them all to return to their village, and in the meanwhile wins his lady love with his simplicity and again by mistake, but for good. In the meanwhile how kiron kher is turned rags to riches, a rose seller to a millionaire. All in all a plot well thought of to create humor here and there through the way.

The Pluses: Humor created well with Punjabi one liners and not much of ho hullah and shouting of dialogues loud and running around here and there as mentioned earlier. Akshays comic timimng pulls through the movie well. Kiron kher also adds to the pluses of the movie. Neha Dhupia is also a pleasant show in the movie, this lady displays a good comic timing in all the teeny weeny comic roles she gets, but poor soul has not bagged a huge comic role yet. Go go look out for the good classic Punjabi one liners and have a good laugh. Music is real catchy, would not be remembered for long but will definitely fetch the moneys worth. My favorites are Jee Karda, Bas Ek King and Talli Hua

The Loopholes: There's this hen chasing scene for which they have put a disclaimer in the beginning that it was well practiced, graphics etc, don’t try etc, but it was simply too funny, and one can just not understand what was that disclaimer for and where did we miss the graphics, Kinng flies in the sky for longgg shots reaching his victim without any squabbles not really possible but then Singh is king I guess, hehe, and similar loopholes here and there but then that’s what the essence of it, leave your brain back home people, just don’t try to interpret it. There was too much of Punjabi in the movie, and the ones who don’t understand it will b lost, not understanding the humor in it. The secong half could not flow itself as the first, it was too streached and got kinda boring, last song on javed jaffery was just unnecessary.
Verdict: Paisa Vasool, but you can wait for the second or third week, so that show rates go down a lil bit, if you are the dimaag lagao kinds in movies you can opt for a DVD, but if u like Punjabi one liners and the humor in it a definite one time watch.

Watch Out: Leave your brains at home, might not relate to the Punjabi one liners if you are not a Punjabi or haven’t known many Punjabis, and you ought to have to have the patience to jhelo the streached ending.

Final Rating: Paisa Vasool . One time Watch.
